A mother was teaching her 3 year old daughter the Lord's prayer. For several evenings at bedtime she repeated it after her mother. One night she said she was ready to solo. The mother listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word right up to the end "Lead us not into temptation" she prayed, "but deliver us some E-mail, Amen."

My young sons, ages six and eight, and I were taking our usual daily commute to school and work. It was a cloudy day and I was thinking how nice that winter is finally coming and my mom would soon be visiting. So I said to my two boys, "look at the clouds boys, winter is coming and you know what that means..." They both replied at the same time "Halloween!" I said "Yes, and Grandma, Thanksgiving and Christmas". After a short quiet pause my youngest son asked "Grandma's a holiday?"

When my daughter Sydalia was about three she overheard her brother use the word human. Not understanding she asked me what it meant. I replied that it was another word for a person or people. "Oh", she said matter of factly, "I'm not a human." "You're not?" I asked in surprise to which she aswered no. Curious I asked if she was a plant or animal. "No, I'm not," she said. "Mommy don't you know what I am?" "Well if you're not a human or animal or plant I'm not sure what you are," I said. She rolled her eyes and shook her head at me and replied "I'mmm a kid, duh!"

It was that time, during the Sunday morning service, for the children's sermon. All the children were invited to come forward. One little girl was wearing a particularly pretty dress and, as she sat down, the pastor leaned over and said, "That is a very pretty dress. Is it your Easter Dress?" The little girl replied, directly into the pastor's clip-on microphone, "Yes, and my Mom says it's a bitch to iron."

She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice "Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?" The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. "I can't dear," she said. "I have to sleep in Daddy's room." A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: "The big sissy."
